Barbados Hosting The 2010 Fireball World Sailing Championships

The tournament will be held at the Barbados Yacht Club and feature two segments: the International Championship from April 26 – April 30 and the World Championship from May 2 – May 7.

The regatta will be produced by the Barbados Sailing Association on behalf of Fireball International.

Barbados Sports Camp Celebrates Third Year

The Barbados Sports Camp offers football (soccer), cricket and netball coaching over four weeks, from 4 to 28 August, at the Cave Hill campus of the University of Barbados, just outside Bridgetown. Former England and Liverpool keeper Ray Clemence, England and Worcestershire batsman Graham Hick and England netball skipper Olivia Murphy are among the stars who have coached the kids aged 9 to 17.

The camp is organized by the Barbados tourist board and designed to lure kids and families to the island after the summer Crop Over Festival, when the number of visitors traditionally dips. Kids choose their sport and then split into age groups with experts rotating between them. The kids learn new skills in a fun atmosphere. Though the camp is mainly aimed at visiting children, locals are invited too so the kids get the opportunity to interact with Bajans of the same age.

The King and Queen Of The Bands were crowned as Grand Kadooment ended the 2K9 Crop Over season.

Trevor Chase was crowned King Of The Bands, while Gwyneth Squires` Lynn Callender was crowned Queen of the Bands.

For Chase it was his fifth win. Winning as Mukuru – The African God Of Agriculture And Harvest.

While Squires paid homage in Hidden Beauty to the culture and people of Barbados.

National Rum Day – Mount Gay Bajan Rum Punch recipe

Bajan Rum Punch
19 ounces Mount Gay Extra Old Rum
4 ounces Lime Juice
1 ounce Angostura Bitters
12 ounces Grenadine Syrup
13 ounces Simple Syrup
1 teaspoon Nutmeg
18 ounces Water

Mix the lime juice, water and sugar syrup. Combine the mixture with grenadine syrup and Mount Gay Rum. Add the Angostura Bitters and stir well. Sprinkle with grated nutmeg and garnish with a cherry. Serves eight people, or one person with eight drinks!
